More Black blogger discord can be found in the Internet concerning Paula White receiving a Trumpet Award.
I watched some of the show even though Sherry Sheppard was a host (She just reminds me of a shorter version of Mo'Nique - just a greasy and hungry looking beast.).
Does she deserve to be honored by a "Black" Foundation?
Well... the awards were first presented by a less than Black... Ted Turner.
People like Andre Agassi do a lot for Black people when other Blacks fail to do so.
(But see Tracy's Blacks Give Back for balance to this statement.)
This award may have been as 'token' as Halle Berry winning an Oscar for Monster's Ball.
Saying that Black awards shows should only honor Blacks is as racist as saying that only whites deserve to win Oscars, Grammys, Tonys or Emmys.
Saying that a preacher should not have won this award would eliminate Jakes, Dollar or the old school Rev. Ike from receiving this award.
So is the protest against Ms White really just racism, but from another group?

Until all groups are equally represented (at least on average) - whites are always going to be seen as having more or "their own" so why do they need to get in on the black or hispanic awards too.
The real deal and the way to move forward is to be accepting of all people doing good for all people. If a black person is teaching literacy to poor white kids or if a white person is teaching literacy to poor black kids - or if both are teaching to their demographic - does it really matter? Someone is teaching and doing good and that should be celebrated every time at every opportunity.
Yep! We have to see it for what it is. How about we call it you mean you couldn't find anyone black to give it to award!
You should consider the other way around:
Few White people are worried that they have not been considered for:
* NAACP Image Award
* BET Award
* Trumpet Award
Nor the open presidency of an HBCU.
It seems that there is a need to find one's own self worth before worrying about what others think.
As a free country I believe that any group should be able to create any award they desire. Just don't get mad if some group of "White folks" don't consider you for "their award" because you make THEIR AWARD the de facto standard.
