But what has changed?There was a time when shipping companies paid ransoms to the middle-men in Dubai (Google "Dubai" for the connection between some American businesses and Dubai for some context) and Kenya .
When payments started going directly to the Somalis - that's when the taking over of fully crewed American ships started.
Without the insider information given from Dubai to the Somalis - the Somalis thought that any ship was as safe a target as any.
When the middle-men were cut from the equation, that's when the killing started.
Maybe there is more to the Dubai/America arrangement than meets the eye.
Ask the Somalis.

It's funny how there is a middle man pretty much pointing out what ship should be jacked. Here comes the LA gang stuff where once you start shooting all logic goes out the window and it won't stop. So one will escalate and the other will take it to a new level.
No one wants to solve the reason behind the Somalis are getting to this point. So here we go again with kill them all instead of helping them do for self. Hopefully Obama can find some middle ground before white man reasoning and imperialism becomes the rational option.
Maybe the Somalis should kick all the extremist out of their country or let us do it for them, which for the oil I am sure Barry will help out, though then we would be going to war for oil verse freedom but hey he's a lib. Maybe if we drilled here so we could be more competitive in the market and build more refineries here in the usa to drop gas prices for our people then we would not have to pass by the Somalis little insurance scam bridge, which feeds thier families cause the Muslim terrorists take such care of their people, and thus reducing the amoutn of times this stuff happens but that is just off the cuff and probably to wild or extreme
