I agree most are sensitive and when you ask them why they don't want to admit it. We are still too worried about what people think of us.
When I was a kid people called Mexican Beaners! My boy Manual and Eddie who were Mexican said YEAH we eat beans so what?
When I was in law school I ate a ton of chicken wings as we had a place that damn near gave you a bucket for 5 bucks. The other blacks at school would say they are talking about you eating chicken. I laughed and remembered Manual and Eddie and said Yeah I eat Chicken so what!
I wish more of us would say the same thing sometimes!
I loved (and still do) grape soda for a long time before I realized that is was a "stereotypical" for me to do so.
While I personally hate grape Soda and Watermelon I wish someone would say something to me about eating Chicken or Ribs.
I like water melon and grape soda, but I'm no longer a huge fan of fried chicken.
It's clear to me that the reason black are sensitive about these stereotypes is because to much of the general population view them as the norm for blacks. Whites on the other hand are convinced that these images are not the norm for them, so they are not as perturbed by them as a person of color would be.
