Rebels

Back in the day - I used to like the Rebels.
Coach Tark started his college career at my town's local city college so I felt inclined to follow anyone from my small(ish) town.
Larry Johnson, Stacy Augman, Armon Gilliam, Greg Anthony and Anderson Hunt would appear twice a week on our local television channel on their way to final four appearances and ultimately an NCAA title.
In fact, the reason I hate Duke is because they beat UNLV to win the NCAA championship.

Yosemite Sam was just the dimwitted foil of Bugs Bunny.

Even the mascot of Ole Miss looks more like Colonel Sanders than a Klansman.

And almost everyone remembers the General Lee from the Dukes of Hazard.

The imagery from the South is both a celebration of ones history and the admission of defeat.
Maybe all these Tea Baggers are just holding out in the hopes that the "South will rise again".

Whenever I hear someone say something like that about the south, I think that it's my grandfather's south too. It's the south that I came home to each summer. It's the south I've grown to love over the years.

I don't like Duke because when I lived in Louisiana David Duke was my state representative. He was a former Klansman and he used a logo just like Duke's when he campaigned.

That imagery of Ole Miss is something that I think about every single time my team plays Ole Miss. Someone is forever waving a Confederate battle flag at their games or on their campus. But then again, whenever I think of my team, The Crimson Tide of Alabama, I sometimes think of George C. Wallace standing in the door barring students of color from entering.

I always liked Jerry Tarkanian too; but I could never understand why he kept chewing on those towels....what was that about?!?

Oh and I never thought that Daisy Duke ever had enough butt meat in those shorts of hers.

@ Frecks - Oh, and they beat Georgetown too.
I HATE Duke.

@ Reg -
The South?
It ain't as bad as it used to be.
One of my uncles died because the white hospital wouldn't take him (In Louisiana).
By the time he found a Negro friendly place - he done died.

I used to alway come visit as a child but I was always surrounded by one group of cousins or another.
I never saw all the problems.
Being from So.Cal. - all the Bill E. Bobs were just harmless dudes from Deliverance.

Back when the show was on, I had no idea what ass looked like.
All the little girls my age had butts like Daisy so I thought hers was fine.

(Okay... that's enough "Bama" on THIS site for the next decade. I already gave it up to them for beating Texas. (I hate "Bama" too))

I hate Duke because they're one of the only persistently top ten teams that starts 3 to 4 White dudes each and every year. Even the 1 or 2 Black Dudes they start are usually high yella's. If this happened more infrequently, okay. But every year 3 or 4 White starters? Come on! If they were trying to field the best basketball players, 3 to 4 White dudes would not starting (even taking into account any academic standards they might have). It's not like the White dudes are from Europe either. These are straight American oki-dokes. It's not like they are in the Ivy League. They are going out of their way to get those White dudes. See North Carolina.

I know all this is highly racist, I'm just trying to keep it true. Maybe in 5 to 10 more years you could consistently start 4 or 5 White players in a top 10 program because those were the best players you could find, but Chekevszky (I know) has been doing this for years. There are a lot of White dudes that can ball, but there aren't that many yet that five starters end up at a top 10 team every year. Duke, come on! Something aint right!
