Would it have been as accepted as a classic Sci-Fi flick?
Would people have seen 'race' instead of focusing on the message?
Back when the actor playing Uhura on Star Trek wanted to quit the series, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. advised her to remain on the show.Why?
Dr. King explained the importance of having a Black presence in the future to show that we made it too.
But to this day, their are still too few relevant Black "Super Heroes".

I think Will Smith as NEO would've been great but ask yourself would they have switched up the other cast.
Would Morpheus be Black, would the Oracle have been Black, and would the fight with the white computer system taken on another meaning!
Otherwise the movie would've damn near been a Black movie. Main Character, Sage Advisor and the All knowing would have all been Black!
And the enemy (creator) white.
A very different story and inferred meaning indeed.
