The "religious" are.
How is it okay to commit a sin (murder/honor killings) against someone else who may have committed a sin?
The only people condemned by Christ were the hypocrites and the arrogant.
It is a false notion that the purpose of religion is to govern, rule and/or oppress others.
The point of religion is to rule over and govern oneself.

You might be right "The point of religion is to rule over and govern oneself" but the way it is practiced is to give one person the power to interpret. So no matter what is said about religion in it's purest form it has always and will continue to be used to govern the people. They can tell as many people as they want to read the bible for theirselves but they know you won't. So instead come to my church and seek guidance from me. It is human nature or at least a well ingrained tradition that makes people want someone to tell them what to do. Religion is just the greatest one ever created because you can't dispute God's law.
You are using an imperfect religious model as your template for discussion here.
YOu are talking about humans interpreting the left over religious texts of years past.
In the past people looked to God or his mouthpiece, a prophet who spoke with God directly and recorded modern scripture. That is the original religious model wher eone followed God more directly.
Today most assume God no longer speaks and hence look at other humans to try to take outdated material and apply it to each other.
It is no wonder so many sour on the idea of religion itself if this is the only structure presented.
How come you didn't show pics of dead Iraqi children who died at the hands of the US Military? I mean after all, George Bush did say that God told him to invade Iraq.
I mean I see the Muslim slant to this post. But how about showing where and how Christianity and Christians have persecuted other groups and cultures throughout history.
All religions are subject to interpretation, and as a result, yes it could be said that it is not religion who kills people. However, without religion, there would be no religious fanatics who would, and have killed in the name of some higher power, no?
I've always said that organized religion is really about power, who has is, who wants it and what they are willing to do to get it.
People can try to justify killing in the name of religion all they want - it's still killing.
I really don't get how so many people can feel good and rightous about judging and persecuting other people. Mind your own business and leave other folks alone!
Those pics were disturbing!!!!
@ FreeMan - I've read the Bible about 12-14 times... and I still don't understand it.
@ brohammas - Yeah. I know... but other than Mormons and Muslims - which religions (as a whole) practice what they preach?
@ Rippa - The first photo is one of a Mulim kid killed during our current war by "US".
@ RunningMom - It's the belief in an organization rather than an ideal.
@ Cynthia - That was the point.
@ Rippa
In the absence of Religion (which I believe is impossible) there would still be fanatics willing to do the most horrific things. It would all just be in the name of something else. Religion is not the cause of wars, atrocities, and man's inhumanity to man...it's is an too often used excuse for it.
I happen to agree with the phrase "govern oneself." The Word was given to be used by us, not against us. And given that the Word is made up of words and exists within that slippery nexus of language, interpretation depends on a number of variables, among them personal experience.
