Oscar Picks

Sure, I like a nice thick rack of of pork ribs - but Mo'Nique ain't it.
Sorry Mo' - but one has to do more than portray themselves to win an Oscar.
The Best Supporting Actress nod will be given to Penelope Cruz.
Why?
Vera Farmiga is largely unknown.
Maggie Gyllenhaal is an Indie queen.
Anna Kendric is also an unknown.
And Mo'Nique is just disgusting. (Even her own husband is allowed to seek other women when he wishes to actually enjoy sex with a regular sized and attractive woman.)

Kathryn Bigelow should beat her former husband (James Cameron) for the Best Director nod.
Cutting edge Sci-Fi is all but ignored when it comes to Oscars.
Critical favorites; Blade Runner, Star Wars, The Matrix and Avatar may have pushed the technology - but Sci-Fi doesn't win Oscars.

Gabby Sidebe may be the current media darling - but on Oscar night, the clock will strike twelve and Gabby's fantasy will be over.
Best Actress Oscars usually reflect a career's worth of work - not just a lucky casting break.
Meryl Streep should best a strong contingent which also includes; Sandra Bullock, Carey Mulligan and Hellen Mirren.

Nope, Precious won't win this one either.
The pretentios pick would be An Education - but this year, The Hurt Locker will win out.

And hopefully they won't be herding this head of cattle on stage this year.

UBJ, If you read my post from last Sunday then you know that I agree about Mo'Nique.

However, I think Sandra Bullock is going to win. Hollywood loves a good White person saves the pitiful Black person movie.

As for Penelope Cruz, she just won an Oscar last year and Nine sucked. I think the chick from Up In The Air will pull off an upset win in Best Supporting Actress.

I also agree that Bigelow will win even though I don't think the film was that outstanding. She has momentum and Hollywood likes the story of her beating her ex.

Boooooo You Uncle Black John. How dare you hate on Mo'nique. I mean, for all the reasons you mentioned.

Look, hater-aid aside, Mo'niques performance was the best to grace the screen in many years. No, she will not win, but it has nothing to do with her performance. Why in hell would you say that she portrayed herself, Huh? That makes no sense at all. And then you dropped her husband in the mix. Was that like the same move white people make when they say "that black person called us a "motherf*cker.

Please UBJ, tell me you were being sarcastic?!

We black folks are forever wanting to go hater on ourselves, but just as soon as a white person or any other person does--Oh Hell No! There we go ready to march on washington! Why hate like that? It doesn't seem correct. Well Monique DID win and black folks have got to stop pretending that we dont have issues. The movie speaks to some deep shit that does happen! It doesn't mean that ALL black people go through this! All this hoopla about Monique's role truly boils down to fear of white opinion about us! They choose to hate us or love us at whim! We cant live our lives waiting for their whims! I read one blog where a sista happened to be a victim of this type of family dynamic! The film speaks to her pain! Do we brush her aside? Stepping down from the soapbox now.

I tend to like my husband with a little pot belly and booty! Im just saying! I dont think you have to like big girls, but putting the sista down is a couple steps beyond just not finding her sexy! If you like Penelope Cruz type mo powah to you! But as for Monique, she's just a big girl, not cattle, brother! Im just sayin'! BTW Imma still come to your blog though!! Ha!
