Leaders v. Bosses

Many people complain about the "leadership" of their city, state, country or political party - but what we have are not "leaders", what we have are "bosses".

Think about it...
Let's use the Biblical account of King David as an example.
In his early years David would lead his men into battle.
David could be injured or killed just as easily as his horsemen or foot soldiers.
David didn't just give orders from a distant and sheltered palace - David was in the mist of the battle.
Even when mistreated by a jealous king, David could not see himself as anything more than an earnest leader.
This philosophy of humility is what enabled David to build an army from nothing.
As David did well, so did his followers.

But then David was severely injured in battle.
His men decided that he was too valuable to risk on the battlefield.
It was at this point that David became more of a "boss" than a leader.
When did David first have designs on the wife of one of his generals?
Wasn't it when he was in the safety of his palace while his army was in the field?
You see... a boss imagines himself to be more important than his workers.
He is what is of value - not those who do the work.
He was no longer on the cutting edge of the battle but reliant upon the weight of the masses to ensure his success.
After David had acquired this philosophy of arrogance is when his troubles multiplied to the point of his insanity.
It then took his relearning of humility to save himself and those he again served (not ruled).

Why do our "leaders" fail?
Because they imagine themselves to be "Bosses" beyond the laws and requirements of the general public.
