What's Up With....

All these fat mammies on late morning television?

Okay... I could deal with Oprah...
But then came Mo'Nique (Yeah.. my 'favorite'), Star Jones and Sherry Sheppard (The View), Sheryl Underwood (The Talk), and Yamaneika Saunders (Meredith Vieira) and so on.

The national morning news shows have fit attractive Black women but these mid-morning-mammies are just too much?
Are these women on air to make the non-Black hosts look better and seem smarter?

I'm Sitting This One Out

Elections from the national level down to those at my local level are a hot mess - so this year I'm pretty much just sitting this ish out.
When it comes to running from the inevitable, a noted blogger once stated that the goal is not to exceed the speed of light - the trick is to just sidestep it.
Sure, I'll keep up with the news, disinformation and misinformation but as far as most of the hyperbole, conjecture and opinion spouted by MSM - I have no opinion.

On my local level, I'm constantly reminding Black politicians that 'Race' is not a platform.
I'm constantly having to console jaundiced politically active twenty-somethings when they find out that those Black pastors, business owners and politicians they supported are really being controlled by groups of the same rich white lawyers I drink with.
(I was told by an establishment member that I need to get in the game and make some REAL money. All he got from me was the side-eye. Being able to tell someone, 'Bitch, you don't own ME.' as I laugh at all the 'Stephens' in the room is it's own reward.)
I'm constantly reminding people that their lives suck because they are not qualified for a better one and that no one owes them a damn thing.

I know, I know... Institutional Racism, Redlining, Discrimination, Pollution, Poverty, Poor Education, ad infinitum... are all conditions under which many are forced to perform,
 but conditions do not dictate outcomes.
Rosewood and Tulsa were a hundred years ago - there is no reason new Black-nationalists couldn't recreate similar enclaves.

I'm sick of Ta-Nussy Coates' bitch-assed talks, books and articles being held up as being representative of non-pussy Black men.
When did we (the nation in general and Black people in particular) become such sissies?
I'm sick of everyone crying; 'racism', 'bully', or whatever and then complaining about 'micro-aggressions' (WTF is a micro-aggression anyway? I guess we can thank those with doctorates in Gender Studies, African-American Studies and/or any other non-STEM or useless degree with popularizing such nonsense.)

Maybe I'm from a different era. Maybe I'm a dinosaur but I'm just sick of the whole trophy-for-nothing, overly-coddled, overly-entitled, $15 an hour for working at Mc Donald's, he/she hurt my feelings, Black Lives NOT Mattering bitches this current culture seems to be producing.
Maybe it's just time for me to turn on, tune in and then just drop out.

'Pretty' v. 'Sexy'

Our clubs are killing right now. We are a Black-owned, Black-run and Black-supported business.
The thing is, we are getting people from demographics we are not targeting.
Black, white, Hispanic, Asian, whatever... we are getting the best looking women from all ethnic or racial groups.

Some Black women got mad when I pointed out a particular Hispanic woman as being the sexiest woman in the club.
'First of all... eff y'all big-belly, weave wearing, broke hoes. THAT woman is bad.', I said to a group of Section-8-divas.

I like Salma and I like Penelope.
Penelope is pretty but Salma is sexy.
Ratchet hood-rats will never understand the difference.

Just a Regular Guy (NOT a Prince, Boss, Lion, King,...)

The clubs are doing well - maybe even too well.
For the past several months I've been asked to; sit on boards (I said 'yes' only to our local Habitat fundraising committee only because I already volunteer at building homes.), receive civic awards (I don't believe in awards - why draw attention to what one supposed to be doing anyway?), and I've been offered a buyout from a well-funded group to create Black clubs in white-owned developments. Politicians have asked me to take photographs with them or to sit on stage with them at their events.
'No, but Thank You.' seems to be the only words I speak these days.

The Sheriff Is a Nig(ding...)

I woke up to see (on the national news) that a candidate's election office was shot at by a kid born in our infamous neighboring sundown-town.
I guess some people still aren't ready for a Black sheriff in the (almost) Post-Obama age.

Honestly, I voted for the candidate but as far as campaigning for anyone in this contest, I sat this one out as each had contacted my clique for support.
If things work out the way I hope, my almost-antebellum town will have both it's first Black and female sheriff.

From Anthrax to Zika?

From contaminated foods, to BPAs, to Trans-Fats, to Vaccinations, to the next deadly virus.
Sure, the public should be informed but what is the point of creating a culture of fear?
After a while, won't the CDC be seen as an agency which always cries, 'Wolf'?

Anthrax, SARS, Swine Flu, Avian Flu, MSRA, Mad Cow Disease, West Nile Virus, Ebola and now the Zika Virus - just to name a few.
I'll worry when I see sexy women walking the streets with assault weapons strapped to their thighs.

Boycott the Oscars?

Sure, I thought 'Dope' was ummm......well... Dope.
'Concussion' looks decent but the film, director and actor who should have been nominated were 'Beasts of No Nation' (film, cinematography), Cary Fukunaga (director) and Idris Elba (actor).
Besides these three films - what quality Black projects came out in 2015?

Boycott the Oscars?

Why? Because your husband wasn't nominated?
Bish-puh-lease..
And Spike? Negro have a seat. You haven't made anything worth watching since 'Malcolm X'.

And stop whining about the lack of diversity in Hollywood.
 If you're an actor you're constantly begging for a job.
 If you're a writer you can create jobs.
And if you're a producer or director you get to choose who gets a job.
(See: Sonda Rhimes, as an example.)

The trick is to become a member of the creator/owner class and to get away from the consumer/employee class.
Until then, sit down and know your place.

In all honesty, no one will miss either one of you.

Attempted Racism

While on another blog I pointed out that I have never been the victim of any real racism - only attempted racism.
But how does attempted racism occur?
Easy. It's when one's racist intentions have no negative impact on your life.

As an example;
I have a friend who was denied the purchase of a loft in a planned upscale development.
What did my homeboy do? Well he bought the whole kit and caboodl.
Now his financially stretched racist neighbors have to see him when he's in town as the owner of their development.

But this isn't as bad as my cousin and his experience.
My cousin (an avid golfer) wished to build a new home on the golf course in an all-white subdivision.
My cousin bought land and began to build his new dream home.
Upon seeing that my cousin was Black the HOA got together and bought his unfinished house for twice as much as it's potential worth.
My cousin then built and even bigger house in the same neighborhood with the additional money.
But the HOA sued my cousin,
and lost.
My cousin again sold his new bigger home to the HOA for even more money  and he agreed to not build another home in the same development.
My cousin bought the vacant land at the entrance to the development and built his new home on a much bigger lot all paid for by the racist HOA through his settlement with the group.
Now my cousin has a huge home and lots land paid for by the same people who wished to discriminate against him.
Their attempt at racism is met with the sight of a home bigger than theirs and land more valuable than theirs whenever they leave home.
