Now That's What I'm Talking About

"I have devoted many years writing about schools, but much of the time I'm writing about poverty" Jay Matthews -Washington Post

Or the effects of poverty on one's ability to do well in school.
No, not just financial poverty, but social poverty as well.

brohammas hipped me to this guy (Geoffrey Canada).
He didn't blame.
He didn't complain.
He didn't beg .
He didn't wait.
He just did.

Strong, smart, action-oriented men make such a significant impact on our society and our children.

I feel like something has caused men to forget the impact they can have in the world, in their communities, neighborhoods and schools.

Men are our natural leaders, it's good to see a strong man with character taking a situation and making it better.

Thanks for sharing!

Poverty is a very serious issue. And yes, it doesn't equate to poverty in the financial sense of the word.

I figured this was your kind of guy. I got very interested in his work after seeing his wholistic, or community baised approach. He does not want to pluck kids out of the nieghborhood and help them find success, he is trying to change the whole nieghborhood.
How many people are trying to change a whole society?
We need this in Philly....bad.

@ RunningMom - Yep.

@ Rippa - Yeah, but if you say that aloud, you're branded a "Sellout".

@ brohammas - Exactly.
Cure the disease - not the symptom.

Cure the Disease - not the symptom...Must be nice but this is America. There is no money in that. If some people stay uneducated then they will always be servants to others.
