I Already Missed Half Of Confederate History Month

Damn... I've been here for a little over a decade and just found out about Confederate History Month and Confederate Memorial Day?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Confederate_Memorial_Day
All About Race takes up the discussion;
http://www.allaboutrace.com/2009/04/14/should-we-celebrate-confederate-history-month/
I guess I need to be more aware of an under represented segment of our society.

Main Stream

What Sarah Palin did for Katie Curic's credibility,
Or Suzuki Samurais did for Jeeps,
Or the Ali interviews did for Howard Cosell,
Or Pulp Fiction for John Travolta -
It seems that Dancing With The Stars is doing for Lil Kim.
When she gives Regis Philbin a shout-out,
and he returns a shout-out on his daytime show -
Maybe Lil' Kim has pulled off the media mastery of maintaining her street-cred (after serving a bullet on a perjury conviction) and crossing over to a larger audience.
(And losing her gut in the mean time.)

Stewart?

Whenever I had a crew, I would always include a "Stewart".
The Stewart is the most necessary position in maintaining a functioning dynamic between sometimes explosive personalities.
Stewart (or any scapegoat) keeps the negative focus on himself (even if unintentionally) leaving the main characters to function more harmoniously with each other.

The Middle-East NEEDS Israel to exist.
Without Israel playing the region's "Stewart", the region would break down into one littered with tribal and religious wars.
Oil would stop flowing.
World economies would collapse.
And Western governments would be thrown into chaos.

New World Capitol

Okay...
Since the original money men involved in Somali pirating were said to be based in Dubai,
And Dubai Ports World were denied ownership of American ports;
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dubai_Ports_World_controversy
And the now Dubai based Blackwater
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blackwater_USA
is being mentioned as a security source for container ships in the region (After their embarrassing dismissal in Iraq) -
What connection is there between Dubai, Haliburton, shipping and security - in a region that controls most of the world's oil?

American Ship Captain Freed

Upon hearing the news of the deaths of his compatriots - Somali pirate Hussein told Reuters;
"The French and the Americans will regret starting this killing. We do not kill, but take only ransom. We shall do something to anyone we see as French or American from now."
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/7650415.stm

But what has changed?
There was a time when shipping companies paid ransoms to the middle-men in Dubai (Google "Dubai" for the connection between some American businesses and Dubai for some context) and Kenya .
When payments started going directly to the Somalis - that's when the taking over of fully crewed American ships started.
Without the insider information given from Dubai to the Somalis - the Somalis thought that any ship was as safe a target as any.
When the middle-men were cut from the equation, that's when the killing started.
Maybe there is more to the Dubai/America arrangement than meets the eye.
Ask the Somalis.

FAITH ?

I'm a sinner - in every sense of the word. But I don't think that I'm a bad person.
I'd heard that one could learn patience by having to be patient - so, I thought that I could learn to be nice by doing nice things. (It didn't work.)

If forgiveness is given freely by the grace of GOD - what's the use of prayer and faith?
Didn't Plato argue in Republic that knowledge and faith were the same thing?
So what is faith?

Is faith just a tool used by those in power to keep their power?
Or is it a tool for those without power to gain new power?
I can buy neither opinion - but I can see the application of both (or each).
As faith in our institutions seems to be crumbling - the question becomes; "What next?".
In what are we supposed to believe?

If a child believes what his parents tells him - does the child have faith in his mother or father?
If the child has faith in his parents' teachings - does the child have knowledge?
If the knowledge is incorrect - what value is this supposed knowledge?
(Just because someone is said to "Know" something - this does not make such knowledge true.)

But what can we say for inspiration, or prescience, or instinct (or the generally accepted meaning of these words)?
What causes someone to keep going when others quit?
Or when the popular theory is in opposition?
Or when doing so would seem counter intuitive?

I have some young cousins who were having problems in school and sports.
Their test grades were low and they were having problems playing in games up to their potential.
They would try their best on their tests and during games - but they kept coming up short.
Why?
Because they were playing (and studying) backwards. They were focusing on doing their best in the time of greatest struggle or stress.
The key in sports is; to work your hardest in practice - and then to just "play" during games.
In school the key is; to work your hardest in class and on homework - and then to just play around and show off what you've learned during the tests.

How do these examples relate to faith?
Because the knowledge of their work during their preparation frees them to relax and (almost) unconscious play during moments of greatest stress. Without the stress, they're free to leave worry to others. They don't have to believe that they're prepared - they'll know it (without "knowing" that they know it). Kind of a muscle-memory thing.

Above is the example used in an earlier post. The image is meant to illustrate the point that -many people create an answer before they are asked the question.

An example of this is seen in watching a batter trying to hit a fastball during a baseball game.
When does the batter begin his swing? No, not when the ball reaches the plate, not when the ball is is flight, but at the moment a pitcher releases the ball.
So how does a batter "know" where to swing?
Does he guess? Well ... the great hitters don't.
The great hitters would seem to "know" where a pitch is being thrown - even before it's thrown. Great hitters are able to "predict" the future in "seeing" the balls projected path.
Put this way - prescience sounds as though it could be universal (or common).

But this is definitely a "Ears to hear, eyes to see" situation.
Think of it as the scene in the Matrix where Neo seems suspended in mid-air and us seeing the whole interaction from an hundred different angles.

Can a man "slow" time down to more manageable increments?
Of course.
How many times during stressful situations has time seemed to creep by in slow motion?
It's as though you're having an out of body experience.
In sports it's often called "being in the zone" or "being unconscious".
That's the point where even the things you do wrong... seem to work out right.

But what does all this have to do with faith?
Well... I'm trying to point out that Plato was in fact correct in his assumption that faith is knowledge (Even if you are unaware of your using of such knowledge).

Imagine that you could see every color including ultraviolet, vacuum ultraviolet and infrared radiation.
Would your perspective of the world or causes of actions be different?
Would your ability to see more clearly be a benefit?
Are visions just a variation of such eyesight?
If this ability to have "Eyes to See" were possible - wouldn't what others see as faith really be your knowledge?
If prayer is a valid way of attaining this better than 20/20 vision - is it really faith at all?

Are White Republican's More Liberal ?

California is generally considered to be a "Blue State" (with a Republican governor) - but the majority of citizens voted to end the endorsement of gay marriage (Prop. 8)
Now, let's go down the list;
Iowa - a mostly white "Heartland State" with a Democrat as governor endorses gay marriage.
Vermont - a mostly white state with a Republican governor supports gay marriage.
Connecticut - another mostly white state with a Republican governor supports gay marriage.
Massachusetts - a mostly white state with a Republican governor also endorses gay marriage.
http://www.reuters.com/article/topNews/idUSTRE53648V20090407

Four states in all. Mostly white and mostly Republican.
Maybe this is why the fat man man who stakes his claim as the Republican leader (Rush Limbaugh) feels the need to change the name of dikes because it sounds too much like "dykes".

A "Miracle" Is A Miracle

The word "Miracle" gets thrown around so loosely these days that the word has lost some of it's intended meaning.
From Miracle Grow to the Miracle on Ice,

To Spike Lee's Miracle At St. Anna - would any of these be accurately accepted as being true miracles?
Miracles are naturally occurring phenomena that happen at just the right time (kind of "perfect-storm of fortunate events). A disaster is just the opposite (in results and welcome-ness).
At this time of year, many sites are filled with scientific information intended to dis sway a believer's belief.
But the fact that events have scientific explanations doesn't take away from their miraculous (to the person experiencing the event) outcome.

Bad Paintings Of Barack Obama

Okay, they're not all bad (some are just in bad (sic) taste).
But it's worth checking out;
