Why Snitch?

You know things are getting bad when the police give up on a neighborhood.

And it's not even in the hood...(yet!).

  1. I always hate these stories because no one ties the increase in crime to the recession. They like to separate it out like all of a sudden more people just decided to be criminals.

What's going to happen in this town is they are going to pass some unconstitutional ordinance now that it has more attention. So don't be surprised in 1 year they are beating prostitutes and arresting drug dealers on site guilty or not!

  2. UBJ: I live in Columbus. Google "Ganther's Place" and you will find that this article is, um, interesting at best and complete B.S. at worst.

I absolutely believe that the officers made off-handed comments, but they also have not given up on this neighborhood. Residents in that area are some of the most serious community activists in town and won't let them.

Had this story mentioned the Near-East side I would have bought it.

The surrounding areas of German Village (wealthy, educated population) and Merion Village (being gentrified with rainbow flags flying as we speak) are also little hot pockets of crime. GV has one of the highest burglary rates in the city - complete with a rash of violent home invasions two years ago.

Did I mention my 81 year old landlady was murdered and stuffed in a wishing well in the back of a oh-so-posh Victorian? I. Shit. You. Not.

  3. @ KST - I always thought of Columbus as a large college town. It just struck me as odd that some police officers were so fed-up with crime that their best advice was for the citizens to move.

(In a well? Was your rent late?)
